Bank Sepah Museum, an immortal legacy
To appreciate its history and to reflect a century of its sincere service, Bank Sepah Museum was established in a graceful and unique environment as an immortal legacy and symbol of colleagues’ longtime efforts in protecting and promoting its long-standing position.
THE FIRST IRANIAN BANK
As the first Iranian bank, Bank Sepah commenced its activities with an initial capital of 3,883,950 rials in 1925. A few months later, the first branch was opened in Rasht. The new articles of association were defined the following year which basically modified the nature of the bank. While the older articles of association indicated the aim of establishing Bank Sepah as for the welfare of army soldiers and generals, the new one attended to commercial and economic demands. Branches of Mashhad, Hamedan, Tabriz and Qazvin were inaugurated in 1972 to 1929. In 1928, the headquarter building ofthe bank was completed and put into operation in Sepah street (now Emam Khomeini St.) in Tehran.
Due to evolution of banking system and after ratification of the code to nationalize banks in 1979, Bank Sepah relied on its long-term banking experience and its thousands ofpersonnel to absorb resources and expand its investments so as to realize both the objectives ofthe bank and the ideals of the Islamic Republic. As a powerful arm in the monetary system, Bank Sepah managed to play an efficient role in prevention of unleashed price-boom, creation of employment, continuous economic growth and balancing foreign payments in compliance with economic policies of the country. Through its widespread branch network,
Bank Sepah has succeeded in absorption of liquidity, – a main factor for inflation – and redirecting it towards productive purposes. Bank Sepah has taken this measure not only to reduce liquidity and general demand for money, but also to employ scattered resources in productive fields and increasing supply. All these aim at optimal economic equilibrium as well as a remarkable growth in national income.
Significant achievements of the bank in the fields of investment and financing hundreds of construction, industrial, productive, and agricultural projects throughout the country as well as its contribution to government projects and offering mortgage facilities to army personnel are among the shining stars in the performance sky of Bank Sepah. Having made comprehensive plans to increase the volume of deposits and redirecting them towards productive sectors, as well as enhancing the staff’s efficiency, Bank Sepah has taken appropriate measures to mechanize and expand banking activities even in remote parts of the country.
All branches are currently mechanized and equipped with modem technologies. It should also be mentioned that Bank Sepah has offered modern services such as electronic banking, ATM, POS, telephone banking, and propagating semi-monetary instruments.
Bank Sepah has started its services in some countries in the world to render services to Iranian and foreign customers since 1970s, by enjoying three branches in cities of Frankfurt, Paris, Rome and an independent bank named Bank Sepah International plc in London. These offices have resumed providing services to Iranian and foreign customers targeting international operations development and customer satisfaction.
These offices services and operations include opening account with prime foreign currency for Iranians, issuing and receiving foreign drafts, operations related to letters of credit, bill and deferred-payment letters of credit, discounting, financing short-and mid-term contracts, granting facilities out of its own resources or syndicated loans.
